Savella

About Savella

Savella is proven effective for the management of fibromyalgia in adults.

Savella is a proven effective medication for the management of fibromyalgia — a common,             chronic condition that causes widespread pain and affects an estimated 6-12 million people in             the United States alone. The cause of fibromyalgia is unknown. Many experts believe that fibromyalgia             is associated with changes in the processing of pain signals in the brain and spinal cord.

In clinical studies that compared Savella to placebo, patients who took Savella said:

  • They felt less pain                and
  • their fibromyalgia overall was improved                and
  • their physical function was improved

Savella is a medication approved for the management of fibromyalgia shown to help people feel all these benefits at the same time.

If you have fibromyalgia, Savella can help you manage your condition, which may            be keeping you from doing all the daily activities you need to do.

Savella is clinically proven to improve fibromyalgia.

In clinical studies that compared Savella to placebo, patients who took Savella said:

  • They felt less pain                and
  • their fibromyalgia overall was improved                and
  • their physical function was improved

            Savella relieves symptoms of fibromyalgia.

Some patients who experienced overall improvement with Savella also experienced pain reduction as early as week one of taking a stable dose (the same dose every day).  It may take several weeks for patients to feel the effect of Savella.

Savella has been extensively studied in clinical trials.

Savella’s efficacy was tested in four studies. Nearly 4,000 adult patients participated in the studies and all of them            met the American College of Rheumatology criteria for fibromyalgia. These criteria include having a history of widespread pain for at least 3 months and having             pain present at 11 or more of 18 specific tender points.

Most Common Side Effects

Learn about the most common side effects of Savella.

The most common side effect associated with Savella treatment is nausea. In clinical             trials, patients experiencing nausea described it as mild to moderate. Approximately 6% of those taking Savella discontinued due to nausea versus 0.6% for those taking a sugar pill (placebo). You may find taking Savella more             tolerable if you take it with a meal.

Other common side effects are headache, constipation, dizziness, insomnia, hot flush,            hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating), vomiting, palpitations, increased heart rate, dry            mouth, and hypertension.

Taking Savella

            Manage your fibromyalgia with Savella.

If your healthcare provider chooses Savella as your fibromyalgia medication, the next step is            learning what to expect once you start taking it. Some patients who experienced overall             improvement with Savella also experienced pain reduction as early as one week of taking a             stable dose (the same dose every day).  Because it may take several weeks to feel the effects             of Savella, be sure to continue taking the medication as prescribed, even if you do not             experience improvement right away.

            Getting started with Savella.

Always take Savella exactly as directed by your healthcare provider. Based on your own response             to treatment and tolerability, your healthcare provider may increase your dose gradually during the first week. This allows your body to get used to Savella. Take Savella exactly as prescribed. Your             healthcare provider may adjust your dose based on your treatment needs or how well you tolerate             the medication.

            Continuing treatment with Savella.

Communicating with your healthcare provider about your experience with Savella is an important part of your fibromyalgia treatment.

  • Be sure to schedule and keep follow-up visits with your physician during your treatment                with Savella.
  • Tell your healthcare provider before starting any new medications, including over-the-counter ones.
  • If, at any point during your treatment, you’re not getting the fibromyalgia relief                you need or are experiencing side effects, tell your healthcare provider.
